I wholly agree with this article. However, there is a problem with good alternatives not really existing. With Dropbox, syncing takes ages, and the free version only allows 2GB of storage; with various file uploading services, you no longer have sufficient control over your files to be comfortable. Not to mention the inherent issues which arise when entrusting a third party with... Well, anything.

My current solution? Uploading files to my private server, where I have complete control over every aspect of sharing the file, including IP filtering, password authentication, limits on the amount of completed downloads or the period of availability...

Of course, a private server is obviously not a solution fit for everyone. In the future, IPv6 will render NAT and other stupidities pointless, and we will finally be able to send files directly from source to destination without having to rely on a middleman.

Re: Blotter 2.0 is finally here!

Yes, the subscribe-calendar bug will be resolved in 2.0.2, which has already been submitted to Apple. In the meantime, you can change your calendar to CalDAV (http://support.google.com/cale..., which still works.

This is the preferred method anyways, as it allows you to make changes to the calendars.

Re: Blotter 2.0 is finally here!

It's out the update :D

Other than that it should work great. We submitted an update that address the Snow Leopard issue (2.0.1) the day after 2.0 was released, but it is still awaiting approval from Apple (despite being flagged as 'express').

We will submit another update that address the subscribed calendar and a few other bug-fixes as soon as 2.0.1 has been approved.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Re: Blotter 2.0 is finally here!

What version should i look in app store?

It sounds like what you're looking for is what's called dual-delivery (aka split-delivery). We actually got an upcoming post that talks about that in details.

Since you got Google Apps as your primary email system, you need to configure it to relay messages to the secondary system (the other webhost).

I know Google Apps does support this feature, but I've never tried setting it up with a regular webhost system. In theory, it should work, but that doesn't mean that it actually will. Since Google Apps will be sending all of these messages to the secondary server, you man need to some kind of whitelisting.

That said, you can always try. As long as the webhost is configured with all the email accounts that Google Apps is configured for and is active, it sounds like it should work. Of course, some webhosts may do some kind of MX-record check and disable delivery if it doesn't find itself in the list, but it's worth a shot.

Let me know how it goes, and feel free to drop me a line at vpetersson@wireload.net.

Re: Understanding email routing (i.e. MX-records)

I use Google Apps (Business) for my domain email. I'm trying to figure out if I could also use (additional free) email hosting from my webhost for the same domain using the email routing features of Google Apps. Thoughts, anyone?
